Not your usual night-out

Last Friday and Saturday, Andrew, Ria, Migs and I took Aileen (who’s more and more loving it in Davao) out for rounds in the city.

Friday, we attended Christopher Cubos’ “I.T. party” at Fwendz Diner. That was part of Chris’s efforts in reviving the Silicon Gulf initiative. There were I.T. professionals present, and plenty of students, which was a good sign that Chris’ initiatives will soon bear fruit. Read more »

Beans and Hops Club

Coffee Beans
“A coffee bean is the seed of the coffee plant (the pit inside the red or purple fruit). The fruits, coffee cherries or coffee berries, most commonly contain two stones with their flat sides together. Coffee beans consist mostly of endosperm that contains 0.8 - 2.5 % caffeine, which is one of the main reasons the plants are cultivated.”

“One of the four principal ingredients of beer, hops are flower cones added to beer as a bittering agent, a preservative, and an aromatic.”

Fwendz Diner - reprise

I’m happy to see that my friend Tope Cubos and his wife Fritzie seem to be running a pretty sound operation in Fwendz Diner. Already they’re getting quite a few regular patrons — last night I overheard someone say that, at last, he had found a new hangout.

This isn’t surprising either. For one, the food is hands-down delicious. And cheap, to boot! The other day, Tope had us try a new item on the menu: a generous serving of chimichanga. It was really good and, as far as I could tell, was authentic Mexican fare. At 45 pesos per serving, it’s a steal! Read more »

More places to go to

I’ve been preoccupied with my Japanese clients lately I haven’t had time to check out Davao’s newly-opened restaurants and cafés. But it hasn’t stopped me from noticing them. As soon as I have the time — and extra cash — I’ll sample all of these new places and their offerings.

There’s Barbecue Boss over at the K1 compound, F. Torres St. It’s an open-air affair and specializing in — you guessed it! — grilled goodies. If I’m not mistaken, they opened before Valentine’s. Read more »
