The party got off to a rather slow start due to some unforeseen glitches, but when it got going, boy, did we have fun! What’s great was, we had so many bloggers all in one place — the registration sheet isn’t with me right now, but I believe we had more than 40 boys and girls.
We had entrepreneurs, professionals, students, media practitioners, hobbyists… It was an exciting mix of people that surprisingly did gel and come together as a community of bloggers.

17 March is fast approaching, and it’s blog party time! Heck, I’m even more excited about it than about Araw ng Dabaw!
Over the past week, the organizers and I have been busy making sure that the preparations are all running smoothly. And last night we had fun choosing the winners for the Davao Blog Awards — this isn’t a serious campaign like the Philippine Blog Awards. There are eight categories (we removed two because we couldn’t even nominate a single blog for those two: darkest blog and most politicized blog). Besides, this is just for kicks. Maybe next time we can do a full-fledged Davao or Mindanao blog awards gig.

After much thought, I finally decided to transfer my Davao blog to its very own domain: www.angdabawenyo.com. And I thought I’d change the name from The Davaoeños to the one you see on top of the page. I was resistant to move at first, because it seemed rather disloyal to just quit Blogger. But then again, I doubt very much that they’d really give a damn if someone up and left them (well, unless droves of bloggers suddenly did an exodus on them…). Hey, no complaints against Google’s Blogger service — in fact, I still have my other blogs over there. Read more »

The Davao Blog Party #1, which will be held on 17 March 2007 @ Netfront Internet Cafe and Coffee Shop, is a sure go! We are expecting around 30 or so Davao-based bloggers to participate, plus friends who are interested in starting their own blogs. I’m happy to announce that two distinguised guests will also be gracing the event: DigitalFilipino’s Janette Toral and Aileen Apolo of Google Philippines.

Recently I read a post on a blog somewhere about the difference between pure blogging (i.e., unadulterated) and pro-blogging (adulterated??). The author apparently had an axe to grind, alluding to pro-blogging as some form of prostitution.
Some bloggers might be hung-over the fact that blogging was supposed to be for freedom of expression. It’s still the case, but we can’t deny the fact that business has a way of insinuating itself where there are gathered masses. (Why is Coke in China?)

Janette T. remarked to me recently that I was ‘on a roll.’ It was about this blog frenzy of mine — since I came back to blogging last month, I’ve churned out more than 30 posts in all! Well, my writer’s block just vanished all of a sudden, is why.
And so I’ve rediscovered blogging. Now I find myself on a mission — one whose cudgels I’ve always taken up wherever I found myself. Community organizing. Connecting with people. It’s always exhilarating and refreshing to encounter new characters, new faces, new idiosyncracies. I’ve been eyeballing with Davao bloggers, and I hope to meet some more before the 1st Davao Blog Party. Read more »

Up until awhile ago, 10 Davao bloggers had an impromptu get-together at 51 Coffee Shop. I was finally able to meet Andrew of Alleba Blog and Ria of MyDavaoCity.com. Also in attendance were Doc Jaime (From the Foreroom of My Cranium), Marc (Hoopaddict), Raine (Introspection), Jun M. (Wyzemoro), Dominique (village idiot savant), and Christian (Just Didn’t Make the News). Tope of Fwendz.com also made an appearance.

Ever since I started meeting up with Davaoeño bloggers, I’ve come to find out a lot about SEO. Apparently, many bloggers here (or probably anywhere) are into search engine optimization as a way to make a few bucks. In my long absence from all things Web these past couple of years, I’ve not been able to keep up with Internet trends, so my idea of monetizing your blog was simply Google’s AdSense. Well, of course, apart from the traditional way, which is getting paid for writing. Read more »
