Be vigilant for Mindanao

black ribbonNo matter how many times one hears about senseless killings, it is appalling each time it happens. How could people sink so low? How could people engaged in violence continue to believe that it will ever solve anything?

The massacre yesterday of the Mangudadatu family members and journalists in Ampatuan town on their way to Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao was, without a doubt, a calculated move to instill fear among voters. It was designed to scare away anyone who dares rock the boat in the province of Maguindanao. It was clearly perpetrated by those in power to keep the status quo.

Let us all be vigilant for Mindanao. To those who are working for peace and development in Mindanao, do not lose heart! If we cower and retreat for fear of our lives, then we become the losers. Let’s not allow cowards to blight the beauty that is inherent in Mindanao. We should not allow the deaths of the innocents to be in vain.

For there to be justice, those of us who have a voice must remain true to our calling. We must not let this heinous crime dissolve into another unresolved incident, otherwise we will be part of the problem.

Bloggers of Mindanao: In following the initiative of our colleague in General Santos, please display a black ribbon on your blogs to signify vigilance and awareness and justice.

To our friends in mainstream media, an appeal. Please do not label the whole of Mindanao or Southern Philippines as lawless. Statements like that won’t help anyone — in fact, it will continue to drag the whole of the island deeper into the mire from which we have been trying to get out all these years.

Let’s not forget our common goal: lasting peace and meaningful, sustainable development in the whole of Mindanao.

are they uneducated? all they think is power in order to stay in status quo? God! I pray these persons responsible will be brought to justice! and well atleast apply the rule of thumb! if not ironfist..

Do you think the situation is just too good to be true? I mean like a free web hosting. we thought its totaly free but behind is something we dont know!. Maguindanao is very hot when election comes, not only to the voters but also to the candidates. Maguindanao is a candidates dream, why coz they can easily manipulate the voters there. Just Like last election Lacson got zero. and Gloria knockdown da king. If you have the maguindanao’s blessings that would make a difference. What if behind of the troubles in maguindanao was not only responsible for the Ampatuan and Mangudadatu but also those politician running in high places in malacanang. And to those politician who wish to have absolute power this coming election. Ampatuan and Mangudadatu are just puppet! now where are we going to start if we want changes in the promise land?

What I really mean is. These people who we think are responsible are not stupid. They have money, power, connection. There must be a big reason that drives them to do such stupid and brutal act.If I were Ampatuan, I cant afford to do such massacre. I can kill theme in different way, a silent way. But that sittuation is a puzzle.

Be paranoid in this way we can push them to dig deeper about Maguindanao Massacre…..

it’s so sad to watch the television news, putting a spotlight on this massacre.. the whole mindanao is in peril because of this. Mindanao, the second biggest island in the country, is always counted as a whole when only a part of it is in combat. why oh why the media put always on the news the negative side of the island but when good things come, it’s often neglected for national television but only shown on the local news. (sigh) I hope things will not exaggerate…

  4. I’m still numb after seeing the photos of this monstrous crime…and I was shocked to learn that an innocent party belonging to the City Government of Tacurong was dragged along with the killings! The said car with 4 city hall employees were going to Cotabato City…nagkataon na nakasabay nila ang convoy ni Mangudadatu papuntang Shariff Aguak…

Anyway, with all fist raised…padayon sa pakig-bato para sa katarungan para sa mga biktima. I’ll have the black ribbon online in my blog sometime tonight.

I have viewed a couple vids on youtube but it is now the same as reading through a good article. Great job! Sorry for my crooked english.
