A friend of mine alerted me to the latest developments in Google Earth with respect to Davao City. There are now 3-D renderings of some of the city’s more prominent buildings! Check out these images from Google Earth.

Image #01. The Marco Polo Hotel and the Ateneo de Davao University-College Campus — two of the most recognizable structures in the Davao vista. The 3 succeeding images display this pair in various points of view.

Image #04. Which building is that dark-hued structure at the lower right-hand side?

Image #05. Gaisano Mall of Davao. That reddish edifice to the right, where is that?
Can you guess the names of these other buildings?

Image #08. Two more very recognizable landmarks.

Image #09. The above buildings, seen from another angle.

Image #10. And then from a higher perspective.

Image #11. This deceptively looks like a Shangri-la kind of scenery, doesn’t it?
I just wish Google would update Davao’s satellite maps so that those sections covered by clouds would become visible. Plus, of course, there’ve been a lot more buildings that have been added to the landscape since the last satellite pass!

I wonder who did the renderings?
Well, whoever they are, they certainly had lots of time on their hands!
# 8 and 9 shows Pryce Tower Condominium, and Landco Corporate Centre (durian coffee ftw!)
@Eboy — Yup, you got it! That is, if you’re looking at it from right to left.
Nice! Has anybody tried adding any Davao info to Google Mapmaker? (http://www.google.com/mapmaker) A lot of Dabawenyos have added stuff to it, but I don’t know when this gets rolled out to Google Earth and Google Maps.
Hey couz! Take a look at my post on MapMaker @ IT talks!.
image #04 > To answer your question, that’s Metrobank.
@tonex — Tumpak!
Here’s a bit of trivia. The Metrobank building, standing at 8 storeys, became the highest building in Davao, besting Hotel Maguindanao (7 storeys), which stood tallest for almost 20 years. But Metrobank’s claim to fame was short-lived when The Marco Polo and then Landco and Pryce Tower came into the picture after only a few years.

Image #11 » Grand Regal Hotel
@Lyle — Unfortunately, yes, it’s not a Shangri-la Hotel.
Hi Blogie – Kind of cool, but some of the renderings just look too un-natural. I’m with you, hopefully Google will update it’s satellite views of the city soon.
i never thought that davao would really look good in the mid air. lmao. i think roxas av is the prime area of davao, wut u think? agi lang..
@Bob — Talked to an Australian guy and he said some parts of Sydney on Google Earth are not updated as well. Somehow that makes me feel a little better.
@janus — Hi there. Thanks for dropping by! Roxas Ave in Davao could be a prime area, but the “center” of Davao is probably going to move north… Or, there may even be more than one center, judging by the developments in Lanang, Matina, and other areas.
in #5, i think the one with the red roof is The Venue.
#7 is the Sangunian bldg fronting San Pedro Cathedral
@Webzer — I don’t think that’s The Venue in #5… But I think you’re right about #7.
Hi! i just happened to run through this blog and good work:D…. Im just an architecture student so i do have plenty of time:D, yes, #5 is the venue! i wanted to make davao a full 3d city like what the peeps did in newyork and paris GE maps unfortunately i only have limited pics of davao. hi… davao city has great development, but i want to see the new MY Hotel building along San Pedro street in Google Earth… Many people saying that this is a colorful hotel. Is it true? Im just being puzzled about this intriguing hotel
It is colorful, yes, at least the front of the building and their logo. But I’ve never been inside it. Hmmm… might be a good idea to take a look and blog about them.
