From my family mailing list, I got a heads-up about an independent film by Director Paul Alexander Morales, Concerto. According to the trailer and blog, the film is about a family in Davao and their ordeal during the last part of World War II.
To the right is the movie poster, which I got from the movie’s blog [http://concertothefilm.blogspot.com].
Watching the trailer, I was really intrigued by the theme, the apparent story of the movie. It says in the blog that it’s about a “piano concert” that the family held in the forests of Davao City amidst the war. Presumably, this is the time of the Japanese Occupation of the Philippines.
This film, which is a historical account by the way, is doubly interesting for me. Since it is about Davao somehow, and because it is placed in a historical setting with Japanese personages, I really hope I’ll be able to see it.
There have been screenings in Manila since 12 July 2008, and one more scheduled on the 19th — tomorrow! — at the CCP’s Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo. I wish we’d get a chance to see Concerto here in Davao as well.
The film is part of the CINEMALAYA 2008 competition, among 19 other entries.

Sounds interesting. sana nga umabot din screenings ng mga cinemalaya films dito sa davao.
Blogie – I got to see Concerto at it’s Gala on Friday night. Very good production. It’s based on a historically true story about a Davao family. They are working on getting a screening in Davao. I hope they are able to. A film really worth seeing.
@Nick — Thanks for the feedback! Lucky you! I do hope they bring it to Davao. We could sure use more culture-oriented events down here. :)
I just want to add that there’s a screening schedule for Concerto on July 28, 2008 7:30 p.m. at the UP Cine Adarna in UP Diliman, Q.C.
See the rest of the schedule here – http://brutusthemovie.com/blog/ Brutus will also be shown on July 30th 5p.m. Brutus got four awards in this year’s Cinemalaya including Jury Prize for Full-Length and best Original Score by our very own Joey Ayala

@pinaylovestories — Salamat kaayo! :)
hi po..are there such sites where i can download the film? San po b? kindly reply po..tnx!
gheltac – good luck. I really disagree with its producers on this. I thought they should have released a bittorrent copy into the wild to build up interest – maybe with people like you. But that idea sounded anathema to them. I understand they cut a deal with a distributor for CD versions – I don’t know the status of that. I can’t imagine that’s going to help them more – but what do I know.
