Kadayawan 2008 logo
Take a look at the new logo for Davao’s festival of festivals. This year’s members of the promotions committee are all young, energetic and forward-looking Dabawenyos, and that fact is evident in this new image of Kadayawan sa Dabaw.
We thought (I was invited to join the promotions committee) that the Kadayawan festival needed a boost in the arm for a more modern approach — but without abandoning the traditional aspects, naturally.
What do you think?
UPDATE: 14 May 2008
Finally, here’s the approved form and colors of the logo for Kadayawan 2008.

I love the web 2.0 look and feel of the logo. Congrats!
May 10th, 2008 at 1:05 pm
Final na ba yung logo? if it is I will not comment anymore
May 10th, 2008 at 1:07 pm
@Dulce — Web2.0? Hmmm… it doesn’t strike me as that…
@BongSeg — As far as I know, it’s already final. But I will know next week at the next meeting.

WOW!! I love the cool simply minimalistic design and slick too! cno ang gumawa ng logo? I commend the author
May 10th, 2008 at 1:56 pm
I see. I will not comment on it anymore
Good luck for the Kadayawan preparations more power!

i find the new logo nice — very youthful and the colors are refreshing to the eyes.
May 10th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
nice, modern logo.
the first time i set foot in davao i didn’t know it was kadayawan. i stepped outside my hotel and wondered why there’s street dancing and floats. didn’t do my homweork back then hehe

@backpacking philippines — Hehehe! Hey, nice site you got there! Very interesting.
May 11th, 2008 at 2:27 pm
hi! pls add me here in your links.. added you already before. thanks so much!!!
May 12th, 2008 at 10:45 pm
Half of it looks real cool. A profile of an eagle head is always a striking sight. The back part feels like a stylized version of the “Wella” logo. It looks festive though so I guess it works!
May 12th, 2008 at 10:53 pm
Hmmm… Maybe you should put the old one for comparison.
Anyway, I like it. And no, I don’t see how it’s web 2.0, but it is modern in a sense.
May 12th, 2008 at 10:53 pm
@benj — “Wella logo” hahahaha! you’re right!
Dito naman sa Davao, some people are saying it looks like the Phoenix logo (a new gas station company here). Thanks for your input!
May 12th, 2008 at 10:57 pm
@Ria — The old version? Actually kaunti lang ang difference eh… Oh btw, they might change the logo again, to incorporate the other Davao symbols daw. Haaay…
May 12th, 2008 at 11:12 pm
Blogie - DURIAN also?! and Mount Apo? And a Bagobo?
May 12th, 2008 at 11:54 pm
Lol! No, just the waling-waling. Actually, the orchid was the only element present in the original Kadayawan logo.
May 13th, 2008 at 1:38 am
The Kadayawan text would suffice
Not too crazy about the eagle and the wig.
May 13th, 2008 at 1:46 am
@Drew — Minimalist approach. I’d agree with you… but, you meant “wing” yes? hehehe
May 13th, 2008 at 12:13 pm
it’s a wig, right? It won’t make sense if it were a wig… it wouldn’t be Wella anymore. lol
May 13th, 2008 at 1:56 pm
ahahaha, alangya ka benj. wella shampoo ka dyan!
May 14th, 2008 at 8:23 am
i’ll be honest. I don’t like the eagle thing.
Yep, not a hint of web2.0.
May 14th, 2008 at 9:07 am
Hi Blogs! As far as I know, that is not the logo that was approved by the Execom. The one that was approved was more festive and colorful pero walang Waling-waling
May 14th, 2008 at 11:10 am
@Ian — This logo was what Digilution sent me, you see. And then I was sent another set of 8 similar-looking logos! I’m getting confused and I still have not received word yet as to which one is the final logo…
May 14th, 2008 at 12:44 pm
The first logo is better than the second (updated) one. Dumami ang feathers!
I suggest you do away with the colorful feathers. Pwede isa nalang.. yung nasa Taas lang….
May 14th, 2008 at 1:10 pm
Dapat sana si Kuya Andrew ang gi-recommend natin gumawa ng logo no?
(Some of Andrew dela Serna’s work: here and here.)
May 14th, 2008 at 2:44 pm
Uhmmm… New logo… WTF?!
May 14th, 2008 at 3:21 pm
@Ria — Actually, there’s another iteration… But I won’t display it anymore, because they just added “2008″.
May 14th, 2008 at 5:55 pm
When will it be held? Cebu Pac has a free domestic seat promo again and I’m planning to go to Davao this time. I’ve been searching for the festival date so I would know when to go there. Help, please!
May 14th, 2008 at 6:47 pm
@shasha — I will post the whole schedule later. Meantime, here are the inclusive dates of Kadayawan: 18 - 24 August 2008.
May 15th, 2008 at 3:53 am
I can’t stretch out my vacation for 7 days, so I need to know when the grand parade wll be. If I remember the 2007 sched correctly, it’s usually held on the latter part of the festival week. So when will it exactly be this year? I assume it’s going to be on the 24th?
May 15th, 2008 at 4:02 am
@shasha — According to the schedule I got (and I believe this is pretty final already), the Indak-Indak sa Kadalanan (street dancing) will be on the 23rd, Saturday. The floral float parade will be on the 24th.
I will post the whole schedule here very soon! I just want to get some details for each event before I do so.
May 15th, 2008 at 3:58 pm
Kamusta naman ang bagong logo! Haha. Ithought the pink umm wig was out of place in the original but now, the second logo just takes the color palette of the logo to a whole new different level.
May 15th, 2008 at 4:43 pm
@ Blogie: Thanks for all the info. We’ll be there from the 22nd to the 26th. I’ll definitely visit your blog again for more festival info.
May 15th, 2008 at 4:45 pm
You’re welcome, Sasha.
To all: if you’re planning on staying at a hotel, pls book early for Kadayawan!
May 17th, 2008 at 2:36 am
hey Blogie, will be visiting Davao for the Kadayawan, can you suggest any hotels/inns that are near the parade route? thanks
May 17th, 2008 at 3:31 am
@iris — Hello there! I suggest you book with Casa Leticia. It’s right beside People’s Park in the downtown area and is very near the usual parade route. Here’s their website. Their rooms aren’t exactly cheap, but for the location, appointments and the service, they’re well worth the money.
