Of tats and body piercings

When I was in college, I had my ears pierced with tiny gold studs. If memory serves me right, I was the only guy in campus with both ears pierced. It was a statement, yes — aren’t all body ornamentations (rings, studs, tattoos, what have you) done to declare something to the world? For me, it was a way to say that I was comfortable with my own being.

I also wanted to get a tattoo then, but I didn’t. I guess I only had enough guts to get earrings. And mind you, having both ears studded wasn’t exactly very acceptable in the rather conservative university I attended.

But I did get henna tattoos several times, during parties mostly, and when I was drunk in Malate once. Boy, good thing I wasn’t too drunk and gotten myself a real one!

Although I appreciate them on some of my friends’ skins, I guess I can’t bring myself to get a tat because of the way I was brought up. I remember back in the late ’70s, I was old enough then to appreciate the fear people felt during Martial Law — tattoos were considered illegal, would you believe?

Come to think of it, though, they do look attractive, if done properly and artfully. In Davao, there are several reputable tat shops. One that I know of is in Gaisano Mall. If you’re the type who wants to declare something to the world by way of sporting a tattoo, go for it!

I wish I had the courage myself. ;)

The two old and wise men had spoken. So, take thier advice. Your mother brought you here into this beautiful world with nice tattoo. It’s just the color is different as compared to a henna tattoo. Pero, astig ka pag mayron. Tattooed person has something to say lalo na sa sex life, specially when your tattoo is located at some sensitive part. Waahh…

hehe. the first tattoo i got is a tacky rose design back in highschool when my friends dared me to get one. over a decade after, i decided to get another tattoo, that is after a year of rumination, on my own terms. last january, i yielded to my desire and went to a really clean, safe licensed international tattoo artist in davao. he was so good with his hands. i never felt pain really. now, i’m happy with my lotus tat. :-)

and oh by the way, i used to wear a nose ring before moving to davao. i guess, i outgrew it somehow. piercings have a way of doing that to you. dunno why.

    nice dropping by your blog.

I wanted an eyebrow barbell piercing before… but I guess it doesn’t suit me anymore now.
