Looking forward to summer

Summer is nearly upon us. As the days start to lengthen, thoughts of beach getaways and mountain picnics become more frequent in our minds, don’t they? Thankfully, both activities are within reach if you’re in Davao.

The Davao bloggers are planning a Summer 2008 gimmick, and it’ll be open to all bloggers from all over. This event will be a resort tour, which will showcase the various beach resorts and other destinations on Samal Island. The island — officially known as the Island Garden City of Samal (or “IGACOS”) — is politically separate from Davao City, but is part of the larger Davao Region. Besides, the island is so accessible from Davao City that most Dabawenyos probably feel that it’s part of their domain.

The plan is to have a group of 30 to 50 bloggers go island-hopping across the Gulf of Davao (well, a fraction of it anyway) and visit the various resorts and beaches in it. There are the numerous public beaches on Samal, some high-end resorts, dive spots…. We could go swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, jet skiing maybe, etc. Of course, there’ll be lots of food!

Hopefully, bloggers from outside Davao will be able to join us this summer. The event will most probably be in late March or early April. At any rate, I’ll be posting more details about this Summer vacation as the plan gets more firmed up.

In the meantime, if you’re now somewhere in Metro Manila or even on the island of Palawan, why don’t you check out value hotels in the Philippines for accommodation ideas?
