Kalimudan
There’s an ongoing event in Davao, called Kalimudan. It showcases the region’s traditional cultures: the Bagobo, Manobo, Kagan, and others. I know that Davao has many local tribes (more politically-correctly referred to as “cultural minorities” — but I personally don’t like this term at all), but I didn’t know that there are in fact more!
The Kalimudan (ka lee MOO dahn) festival aims to increase the level of consciousness regarding the Davao region’s tribal communities. It’s a sad fact that the average Dabawenyo is not aware at all of his heritage, his history. This event will hopefully address the need for more awareness not only of our traditional peoples’ way of living, but also of their plight, concerns and current issues.
The event, unfortunately, will be short-lived. It will run only until 25 November (this coming Sunday). If you’re in Davao City, head on to Magsaysay Park before the show is over. There are exhibits of authentic tribal houses, performances of traditional dances, and interaction with members of our Indigenous Peoples. There will also be an indigenous culinary feast, presumably this weekend.
Here are some photos of Kalimudan.
Online directories have proliferated in the Internet, but check out this one: Asian Business Directory Listing. It is a directory of paid listings, which means it has the potential to become a repository of serious business leads, suppliers, potential clients and more.

I’d been to the place & interact w/ the cultural community groups. I agree w/ u about use of the term,”cultural minority”- this is not a very nice way of calling them. They are our brothers & they are our roots, so they will always be a part of us, of our cultural heritage. I feel so privileged in sharing my time with them while i’m in Davao. I salute the City Government of Davao for this very wonderful way of showcasing the culture of Mindanao. Surely, it will add to the splendor of Davao City as one of the most livable cities in Asia. To the organizers of this event, congratulations, guys! Job well done!
