Fwendz Diner – reprise

I’m happy to see that my friend Tope Cubos and his wife Fritzie seem to be running a pretty sound operation in Fwendz Diner. Already they’re getting quite a few regular patrons — last night I overheard someone say that, at last, he had found a new hangout.
Dave approves!
This isn’t surprising either. For one, the food is hands-down delicious. And cheap, to boot! The other day, Tope had us try a new item on the menu: a generous serving of chimichanga. It was really good and, as far as I could tell, was authentic Mexican fare. At 45 pesos per serving, it’s a steal!

Fwendz Diner also offers cooking classes every Saturday. For details on that, call them on 301-6876, or visit their Friendster page. Christian blogged about it here.

I think Fwendz Diner is also becoming a hangout for I.T. types (like me!) and bloggers (also like me! wink ). College students have begun to frequent the place lately, which adds to the interesting mix of people around. A pretty good crowd, if you ask me.

Oh yeah, they’re now Internet-enabled via their own free wifi access!

The Diner is located in Metro Avenue, that fairly new arcade at the back of Gaisano Mall. Check it out and satisfy your palate without hurting your wallet. big grin

I’ve been there this afternoon. yeah, the food was great. I’m just hoping they could get a better place. They have good promotions, good food yet the place is a bit under-rated relative to what they can offer. :)

    Hello,

Tope Cubos and his wife Fritzie were really gracious hosts to me and my brother last night. Their Mexican food was delicious indeed! We tried the chimichanga and baby back ribs.

The prices are worth this cozy spot. Free IT consultation, free wifi access, free parking, clean comfort room, wholesome crowd and cheap beer.

Keep up the good work Dabawenyos!

Btw, for those in Davao who’d like to have a glimpse of the memorable MBS1, the huge stage backdrop tarp will soon be hanging at Fwendz Diner!

Excited to see the tarp there. big grin

I went with two friends. Finally found the place. I hope it was the right place. The back of Metro. The security took us there and we ask the people in the stall if it was the right place. You order then sit at benches. Other food and drink places inside and use the same tables. I went for the sole purpose of some kind of Mexican food. We were told they did not have any kind of Mexican food. The atmosphere would be ideal for high school and college age, but not for an old retired priest. I told the gentleman I was told you have very good Chimichanga and he said, “Oh yea, but not tonight.”
I can understand why the young kids like it because you are right when you said it had become a “hang out” that is certainly true. It took me back to some of the places we hung out at in college.

@Tom Martin — Hello, Fr. Tom! I’m afraid Fwendz isn’t what it used to be…
