Mam Bebs Bakeshop

When I was in high school, La Suerte Bakeshop was one of the places where we — friends, family members — would pass by on the way to or from school. It was right in front of the Ateneo high school campus, after all. But more than that, they always served delightful pastries. And, boy, in the early mornings the aroma of freshly-baked pan de sal was enough to make your mouth water!

Today, the family that owns La Suerte have renamed — and repackaged — the good old bakeshop to Mam Bebs Bakeshop & Refreshment Parlor. And they’re now located at the ground floor of CVA building on C.M. Recto Street. For your orders, call 227-8131 (look for Lani, Rose or Lilia).

At the last meeting of the 1st Mindanao Bloggers Summit organizing team, Andrew (who’s the son of the owners) gave us gift boxes containing samples of Mam Bebs fare. My favorite was the potato rolls, which Migs says doesn’t taste anything like potatoes. Well, carrot cakes don’t taste like carrot, do they? ;)

Speaking of Migs (who’s also one of The Usual Suspects), he’s posted a very eloquent — if misspelled — review of Mam Bebs’ unforgettable pastries. Click right here to read it and to feast your eyes on some photos Migs took.

(Peace, brader! I couldn’t resist the jibe… ‘Wag mo nang i-korek ha? It adds to the charm naman eh!)

One more thing I can say for their pastries: since Bo’s Coffee Club at SM City orders from them, you can be sure they’re that good!

Who can guess why they’ve named the shop “Mam Bebs”?

Kung gusto mo sabihing “it’s the TOT that counts,” eh di mas maganda ang “it’s the BABY that counts.” ;)

Thanks for the plug!! Yeah, funny that the potato rolls don’t taste anything like potatos, but they’re awesome, right? :)
