Papa Ching’s Resto
My friend Ian brought me to this fairly new chicken place in downtown Davao, Papa Ching’s. I want to say straight away, their greaseless chicken is awesome!! It really was greaseless, and the taste was just heavenly. I don’t particularly enjoy chicken as much as, say, beef. But that experience last night made me reconsider… it was that good.
It’s a come-as-you-are kind of place, nothing fancy, but it’s clean and the service is OK. Ian and I went there with a couple of friends, and we had spicy greaseless chicken, crispy canton noodles, and mixed greens. The friend chicken wasn’t spicy at all for me (well, I eat chili peppers, so I guess maybe that’s why), but the flavor was simply fabulous. For the first time in ages, I ate the skin, which was oh so crunchy. And the meat was juicy, I didn’t have to use catsup or anything. Really, I’m speechless.
The crispy canton noodles — a favorite dish of mine by the way — didn’t disappoint either. In fact, I loved it. And the vegetables too. The way they cook it at Papa Ching’s, according to Ian (who’d been there once or twice before), they just blanche the okra, string beans, etc. They don’t cook the veggies till they’re soggy.
Papa Ching’s restaurant is located very near Victoria Plaza. For the life of me, I can’t remember the name of the street…. Anyway, go past the entryway of the mall into Obrero; it’s a short distance after the intersection, on the left side.
The check came out to about P640 for the four of us. Not bad. It’s definitely a restaurant I’m going to find myself in many more times!
