Customer service makes all the difference
Last Monday I went out to dinner with a couple of Manileños and a fellow Davaoeño, all kindred bloggers. Andrew suggested the place: Karlyn’s. He said the restaurant had just transferred from somewhere; now it’s located off the Ecoland Diversion Rd., just past SM City if you’re coming from the north.
The place is very simple, nothing fancy at all, open-air. Food is served turo-turo style (for the uninitiated: that’s like a buffet, but not eat-all-you-can; there’s a price for each item you “point” to or turo).
Andrew and Jayvee’s beef tips with mushroom orders were taking so long, but when they arrived, boy, the guys looked like they could eat a whole cow! Which they almost did — after the first serving, Jayvee asked Andrew to split another one. And then one more for each of them after that! I had a taste of it — a piece of beef Andrew grudgingly let me have — and it was indeed almost heavenly. Cooked just right, with gravy that was obviously prepared with care.
What I appreciated more was the service. One of the waitstaff approached us after finding out our orders were delayed, and he apologized profusely, without trying to give lame excuses. It did look like they were unprepared for so many customers. But because they had the consciousness to try and make up for it, I give them a thumbs-up. I do hope they keep up the good work.

I’ve been a customer service personnel for years, and I totally agree that it’s imperative to provide good customer service.

The only time that I can forgive lack of good customer service is when the food is sooo excellent you just don’t care about anything else. But that happens very rarely — usually where food is good, service is also good. Just a thought.
