Ten days to go…

17 March is fast approaching, and it’s blog party time! Heck, I’m even more excited about it than about Araw ng Dabaw!

Over the past week, the organizers and I have been busy making sure that the preparations are all running smoothly. And last night we had fun choosing the winners for the Davao Blog Awards — this isn’t a serious campaign like the Philippine Blog Awards. There are eight categories (we removed two because we couldn’t even nominate a single blog for those two: darkest blog and most politicized blog). Besides, this is just for kicks. Maybe next time we can do a full-fledged Davao or Mindanao blog awards gig.

Something weird, though. Every single time the organizers meet, it rains. But everybody shows up. And that’s the best part of it! :D With this kind of dedication, I’m sure that Party #1 will be a booming success.

This time we met at Casa Leticia, which is one of the sponsors of the party (they’re giving us two rooms that our guests from Manila will use). This boutique hotel, although small (only 41 rooms & suites), is known for its good service — it was the hotel in Davao that set the bar for other hotels to try and match when it came to excellent customer service. A bit more expensive than other properties of its class here, but it’s well worth the extra cash outlay if you value service, peace of mind, and comfort.

OK, before I start sounding too much like a brochure (I actually wrote their ad copy years ago ;) )….

So far there are now about 20+ who’ve signed up, meaning there’ll probably be about 30+ who’ll attend the party. Non-bloggers who would like to know more about blogging are actually welcome. We are actually hoping to encourage more people here to start their own blogs.

By the way, we’ve gotten a couple more sponsors for Party #1. WowDavao, and Rhonson Ng Photography, who has volunteered to do the photo coverage of the event. Yipee!! :D

Hi! I’m Shiella also a blogger from Davao but right now I’m working in Cebu. I planned to go home to Davao for Araw ng Davao but I’m so busy with work now. Geez… I hope your blogger awards would be successful! I organize events in Davao too (before) and I know how hard it is to find sponsors…hehehhe

Thanks Shiella! But the blogger awards thing isn’t the main event — it’s the party itself. :) We thought of doing the awards just for fun. But perhaps we’ll do something serious with the awards in the future…

hello felmar! there’s no formal bloggers group in davao (yet) — it’s just a loose group of bloggers for now. meantime, why don’t you submit your blog to the Davao Blogs Directory? :)
