Meeting this Saturday

Written by Blogie on 28 February 2007 – 9:04 pm

The Davao Bloggers Party #1 organizers will meet this Saturday (3 Mar.) at Casa Leticia, 5:30 PM. We’ll be at the coffee shop at the ground floor, Sagay, where wifi is available free.

The party’s only about two weeks away, so we’re doing our best to make sure that the event is a success. Anyone who’d like to join the meeting is free to attend.

We’ve got most of the pieces in place already — the venue, sponsors, gimmicks, hopefully the food & drinks. So that’s why we have to meet again this weekend to make sure that everything else will be taken care of. We do need some more helping hands, so if you could volunteer, we’d appreciate it! :D

In case you haven’t yet, please register at the Davao Blogspace, then go to Forum >> Events >> Davao Bloggers Party #1 and sign up for the party!

Coffee shop poll

Written by Blogie on 27 February 2007 – 12:27 pm

In my old blog over at davaoenos.blogspot.com, I ran a poll called "Which is the best wifi café?" Well, here are the results after 41 votes. Of course it’s not definitive, but it does give you an idea, not of the best coffee in town, but of how many people access the Internet in coffee shops and my old blog. Hehehe! ;)

davao's best coffee shop?

Yeah I know, I write a lot about coffee shops. What can I do? I love coffee!

More places to go to

Written by Blogie on 27 February 2007 – 8:40 am

I’ve been preoccupied with my Japanese clients lately I haven’t had time to check out Davao’s newly-opened restaurants and cafés. But it hasn’t stopped me from noticing them. As soon as I have the time — and extra cash — I’ll sample all of these new places and their offerings.

There’s Barbecue Boss over at the K1 compound, F. Torres St. It’s an open-air affair and specializing in — you guessed it! — grilled goodies. If I’m not mistaken, they opened before Valentine’s. Read more »

Davao Bloggers Party #1

Written by Blogie on 22 February 2007 – 1:38 am

davao bloggers party organizers

Yesterday, the organizers of the Davao Bloggers Party #1 met up at Blugré Café in Matina Town Square to discuss the plans for the upcoming party. Most important details: it’s gonna be on 17 March 2007 (Sat.) and it’ll be at Netfront Coffee Shop & Internet Café. Netfront is a brand-new place right in front of Aldevinco and behind Marco Polo.

Your oh-so-dedicated organizers are: Kim C, Ria J, Marc J, Andrew, Wyzemoro, and your truly. Councilor Pete Laviña, who happened to be at the coffee shop, dropped in to give words of encouragement and support.

The party is open to all bloggers who are in Davao (meaning: even if you’re not a Davaoeño but find yourself in Davao on 17 March, you’re in!). Please go to the official announcement page for more details — that page will be kept updated as we go along.

Party photos

Written by Blogie on 19 February 2007 – 2:01 pm

I’m not really much of a photographer, but I do enjoy taking a few pictures once in a while. Last 18th was the start of the Chinese New Year, wasn’t it? It was also a Saturday, and the birthday of a friend… 3 reasons to party! So, here’s my first attempt at photo-blogging Read more »

Achtung!

Written by Blogie on 17 February 2007 – 2:56 am

Yesterday, after a pleasant time with my friends Bob & Feyma Martin, I wrapped up some loose ends for the day and proceeded to one of my favorite cafés to unwind. Basti’s is usually a bustling place at that time of day, and this foreigner didn’t have a table, so he asked if he could sit with me. Well, why not, I thought, share a table and win a friend! And so I did. Read more »

Welcome to my spanking new domain!

Written by Blogie on 16 February 2007 – 11:59 pm

After much thought, I finally decided to transfer my Davao blog to its very own domain: www.angdabawenyo.com. And I thought I’d change the name from The Davaoeños to the one you see on top of the page. I was resistant to move at first, because it seemed rather disloyal to just quit Blogger. But then again, I doubt very much that they’d really give a damn if someone up and left them (well, unless droves of bloggers suddenly did an exodus on them…). Hey, no complaints against Google’s Blogger service — in fact, I still have my other blogs over there. Read more »

Pro-blogging in a nutshell

Written by Blogie on 15 February 2007 – 10:11 pm

Recently I read a post on a blog somewhere about the difference between pure blogging (i.e., unadulterated) and pro-blogging (adulterated??). The author apparently had an axe to grind, alluding to pro-blogging as some form of prostitution.

Some bloggers might be hung-over the fact that blogging was supposed to be for freedom of expression. It’s still the case, but we can’t deny the fact that business has a way of insinuating itself where there are gathered masses. (Why is Coke in China?)
